So, as our blog progresses, you guys are going to find out that I’m a huge nerd. I just want to give a small warning that the following post has some video game content, but give it a read. It does relate to design and advertising, and if you’re an old school Nintendo fan, then you’ll definitely love it. Just be happy I didn’t go off about Star Wars…
Anyway, Capcom’s latest version of Mega Man comes today for the Wii (and soon for the 360 and PS3) and this time around the developers decided to return to their roots and create the game in original 8 Bit fashion. Basically this game is going to look, sound, and play like an original Nintendo game!
Attention designers: The advertising for the game returned to its roots as well, with cover artwork reminiscent of the U.S. boxart for the original Mega Man game. Check it out:
The marketing group felt that if they were going to release a game that looked like it came from 1987, it would be best to run the entire marketing campaign as if they were working in the games industry then. A press kit with the same design was also released featuring a cd case shaped like an original NES cartridge!!!
If you’re interested in actual game play, IGN wrote up a nice review - and it scored an 8.6 out of 10!!

Yes! That coverart is amazing (hopefully the game will be as well.) Cyborg Wily FTW.
